Parents and carers have until November 29 to apply for Reception and Year 7 places.

Most people now apply online by visiting www.swansea.gov.uk/applyforaschoolplace

Those without computer access at home can access computer services at their local library or primary school. Anyone needing additional support can contact their local primary school in the first instance.

Children start reception when they are four and enter their first year at comprehensive, knows as Year 7, in the September when they are 11 years-old.

Cllr Jennifer Raynor, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Education Improvement, Leaning and Skills, said: "Applications have opened and although the deadline is still some weeks away it is always better to submit them sooner rather than later."

Due to the volume of people attempting to apply online in the first few days the system can be slow so if there are issues give it a couple of hours and then try and again.

Applications submitted after November 29 will not be considered until after all on time applications received have been allocated and offered their places.

Parents who have applied on time for a secondary school place will be notified on March 2 about whether or not they have been allocated a place at the school of their choice and if not, where there is a place available.

Parents who have applied for a primary school place on time will be notified on April 16.

Last year 95% of parents in Swansea secured a place at their preferred school.
